The Fall Garden
Fall is the best time to plant. Why? Because we are over the heat of the late summer and the threat of drought is limited. Planting now gives you a head start on spring. The roots of your newly planted trees, shrubs and perennials have a chance to grow down and out before they are forced to grow up. And because many plants have already finished flowering, they can use the extra energy for root growth instead of flowering. They also don't have to face the heat of summer before they become established.
